How often do we go about our day without taking the time to stop and thank God for all he has done? Today, Richard Hamlet shares from Psalm 126 and talks about the freedom that we have in Christ.

Let’s turn back the Ministry in the Marketplace time capsule to the 1880’s. In America, innovation was thriving. The Washington Monument and the Brooklyn Bridge were completed, Thomas Edison had just invented the light bulb, William Randolph Hearst acquired his first newspaper and would then go on to build the largest newspaper conglomerate in America. Mr. Hearst bought his first magazine in 1905, Cosmopolitan. Over the years, it’s evolved from being a family magazine to a women’s magazine. Today, some would say that Cosmo is a moral violation when you’re standing in the checkout line. Today’s guest is the Granddaughter of William Randolph Hearst, Ms. Victoria Hearst. She joins us to talk about her ministry in Colorado and how she is working to make a positive difference on the next generation.
Sometimes, all it takes is putting yourself out there. So many people today don’t want to face rejection so they end up ignoring their calling instead of acting on it. Jesus said, “Go.” He didn’t say “do nothing.” Today, Richard Hamlet shares from the book of Luke. Click on the audio bar below for the full message.

What was life like when you were a child? Hopefully, it was full of fun memories and exciting childhood experiences with loving parents and a good education. But unfortunately, for many, childhood was and is anything but delightful. Did you know that last year alone, over a quarter of a million children were put into foster care? That’s about one child, every two minutes, of every day. This staggering statistic is one of the reasons that today’s guest does what he does. Greg McCoy is the President of the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Homes. Click on the audio bar below to hear his story.

Our next guest has a ministry in the marketplace that involves coffee. It all started after a missions trip to an African country known for it’s coffee cultivation, Kenya. When she arrived in Kenya, she was struck by the poverty and it’s ramifications on the Kenyan people. When she returned to Memphis, she and a friend decided to start a business where the profits would be used to help those impoverished families that she had met in Kenya. Check out today’s program to hear more and to find out how you can be involved.
What’s your first reaction to bad news? Well, it depends on what kind of bad news i’m talking about, right? But say something tragic has happened to you or someone you know, such as a death in the family. Everyone deals with grief differently. I believe one of the biggest issues that so many people face, in a tragic situation, is becoming angry with God. Today, Richard Hamlet shares from the book of Joel about God’s mercy and compassion in times of grief.

Today, our Ministry in the Marketplace spotlight shines on a musician and educator, who is teaching others how to use their musical gifts for the Kingdom of God. It all started back in 1996 when three friends, Ken Steorts, John Cooper and Trey McClurkin started a band in the basement of their Memphis church. The submitted themselves to their church leaders and before long they discovered that the Lord had a wide outreach plan in store for them that extended well beyond the church walls. Pretty soon, after signing a recording contract, the band Skillet found themselves touring the U.S., performing before thousands, releasing record albums and doing interviews. After about five years of this whirlwind lifestyle, guitarist Ken Steorts decided that road-life wasn’t so conducive to family-life and he headed back to Memphis with a new vision. It was the beginning of what is now the Visible Music College.
Do you ever find yourself wondering why God allows certain things to happen? For a lot of people, in desperate times, it feels like God isn’t listening. Here’s the good news, our human finite minds cannot come close to fathoming what God has planned for us. Isaiah 55:8 says, “My thoughts a re nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.” Today, Richard Hamlet shares from the book of Luke and talks about God’s perfect plan for each of us.

Today, our Ministry in the Marketplace spotlight shines on Kevin Fukala. As a young boy, Kevin always dreamed of playing professional hockey. He lived and breathed the sport, hoping that one day he would see his dreams come true. He went off to high-school and something else got his attention. The need for acceptance. Before he knew it, Kevin found himself involved in gang activities that nearly got him killed. Fortunately, God had other plans for Kevin. Click on the audio bar below for the full story.
Do you know that feeling you get when you experience something new? Maybe it’s a materialistic item such as a new pair of shoes, or even a new car. There’s just something about the word “new” that gets people excited. I believe we all face times in life when we feel stuck in our routines… needing to feel refreshed. Jesus said, “If anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation.” He goes on to say, “The old has gone, the new has come.” Today, Richard Hamlet digs into the book of Philemon and talks about the transforming power of God and His ability to give everyone a fresh start.

So what’s your morning routine? We all have one. Some of us stumble out of bed and groggily make our way to the coffee pot. Maybe after that first cup or two, we put our glasses on and reach for a morning devotional book, or maybe open up the Bible to where we left off before. Believe it or not, some of us still reach for a newspaper, while others prefer their iPad or smartphone. But the one thing most of us have in common is the ability to read. Right here in your hometown, there are an extraordinary amount of people that are functionally illiterate. In fact, they’re all around us. Many are ashamed t o reveal that they have this challenge. Today’s guest is Ryan Viner, Executive Director of Coaching for Literacy. Click on the audio bar below to find out what Coaching for Literacy is all about and how you can be involved.
