In 1882, the American people were recovering from the bloodiest four years in U.S. history, The Civil War. As slavery came to an end, many people had nowhere to go with very little resources. At the time, a man named Isaac Lane was elected the fifth Bishop of the CME Church and soon saw the need for education. As a result, he founded CME High School which would later become Lane College.
