Are you afraid of failure? So many of us have developed an “I can do it alone” mentality. For some people, there’s just something about taking control of a situation that builds confidence… That is until you fail. Today, Richard Hamlet shares from the book of Deuteronomy and talks about the importance of relying on God to carry you through. The only one that can bring true success.
Real Time in the Marketplace
Today, our Ministry in the Marketplace spotlight shines on a musician and educator who is teaching others how to use their musical gifts for the Kingdom of God. It all started back in 1996, when three friends, Ken Steorts, John Cooper, and Trey McClerkin started a band in the basement of a Memphis church. They became the house-band for the church’s youth outreach program. It wasn’t long before they discovered that the Lord had an even wider outreach program for them that extended well beyond the church walls. Pretty soon after signing a recording contract, the band Skillet found themselves touring the U.S., performing before thousands, releasing record albums and doing interviews. After about five years of this whirlwind lifestyle, guitarist Ken Steorts had a new vision in his heart. It was the beginning of a school, which is now called Visible Music College.
Real World Impact
On today’s Impact segment, we’ve asked Ken to stick around and share how his love for music and ministry has led him to opportunities that he never would have imagined. Not long after signing a recording contract with a major record label in Nashville, Skillet started getting a lot of music industry attention. For three young men in their twenties, it was a lot of pressure. Fortunately, they had Godly men helping them to stay focused on their true calling.
